And stay tuned until the end of this episode for the question of the day; if you answer it correctly, you'll have a chance to win a free skincare product! There's just as much misinformation flying around about hair as there is about skincare. So today I'll tell you six of the worst myths about your hair. Let's get started! Myth #1: Her-ed-i-tary hair loss is caused by maternal genes! Actually, the heredity of hair loss is very confusing and complex and not nearly as simple as just being inherited from mom. I'm sure you can blame a lot of stuff on your mom, but no longer can you blame your hair loss on her! Myth #2: If you shampoo less often, your scalp will gradually produce less oil. In fact, if you shampoo less often, you're hair and scalp will be dirtier and more oily as the oils accumulate and trap more dirt. The only thing that regulates oil production is your level of male hormone in your blood. Period. End of story. Nothing else affects oil production in your scalp or skin. Myth #3: If you wax long enough the hair will stop growing. If stopping unwanted hair were only that easy! Actually, if you wax long ...

  2. I used to wash my hair every other day because it seemed like every magazine recommend that. I thought maybe it will decrease breakage. It was so uncomfortable. My scalp started to have dandruffs and became itchy and greasy. So recently I switched back to shampooing every day. It was so much better. My mother shampoos her hair every single day since she was borned. Her hair is still beautiful and full.

  3. I'm so happy to have found your videos, Dr. Schultz. I find that there are so many people (on YT, blogs, etc.) out there who give out misinformation about skin and hair care and other health-related matters in general. These people aren't even dermatologists or physicians. So it is relieving that there are videos like yours because you know the specific science behind skin and hair. I hope that more viewers will watch your videos to educate themselves.

  7. I think it depends on the type of coconut oil you're using. In the winter I use extra virgin coconut oil all over my body and face at night time. I find it to be an excellent moisturizer and gives your skin a natural, rejuvenated-looking glow. It also doesn't smell bad, like other coconut oils. I hope that's helpful!

  9. I'm always shocked at how many people truly believe that cutting their hair makes it grow faster. It doesn't make any sense. Funny!

  10. EVERYONE should be subscribed to dermTV. Too many gurus out there talking about skincare and haircare that have NO IDEA what they are talking about and NO CREDENTIALS to back them up.

  21. hmm i think it's true that if you shampoo your hair more often it dries out, at least i made that experience, so even if your hair didn't get oily from lots of washing it would be still bad to wash your hair very often

  23. I have to disagree on the shampooing less causes the scalp to become dirty and oily. I used to try so many shampoos to help with my oily hair condition and none of it worked. To make things worst, my scalp produce more oil, to the point that i my hair becomes oily by the end of the day despite my shampooing in the morning. Now i have stopped using shampoos and relied on only water to wash out my hair. And my oil production has improved significantly and so did my dandruff.
